Recently, quite a few celebrities, and singers/musicians have been sharing their struggles with conditions like social anxiety, and performance anxiety, and how it can be quite debilitating for the sufferers.

Many sufferers are anxious that they might be judged by others in social situations, and worry about embarrassing themselves in front of others. As to why the condition happens, theories abound. For example, it could be hereditary, it could be be attributed to the overactive part of the brain which controls fear, it could be that some sufferers were traumatised by abuse and bullying.

Typically the condition can affect quality of life. For instance some people suffer from low self-esteem, depression, negative thoughts etc. This makes sense as sufferers fear being judged and embarrassed in social situations.

This song is written for sufferers of social anxiety. There is hope because, “... God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV. Here’s the reason: there is no one who loves you more than God who gave up His Son for us, and there is no one who should matter to you more than God. And you cannot make God love you any less; He sacrificed Jesus for you so that you can be cleansed of sin.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, great news: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you a free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, b God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. c And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-4 NIV.

In the end, only what God thinks of you matters, full-stop. Not the people you’ll meet, your parents, friends, your boss or even spouse. In fact, by virtue (pun and irony unintended) of people’s sinful nature, they will disappoint you at one time or another. The idea to live for God and seek His approval alone is ultimately and sublimely liberating, because God is good, loves you and looks after you.
